CityCentre 3

There’s no question that fabricating building components in a shop setting versus assembling them on site improves quality control.

Using BIM technology we were able to fabricate such items as ductwork, sprinkler piping, some electrical components, and all curtain wall frames. For example, the offset S-shaped windows in the curtain wall system presented a quality challenge, and quality control in the field would typically be a slow and tedious process. But using BIM, we were able to fabricate the curtain wall frames offsite, inspect them at multiple points during fabrication, and deliver them fully assembled and ready for installation. With inspections performed on the ground rather than via a swing stage 80 feet in the air, attention to detail was enhanced, as was the safety factor for our team members. Not surprisingly, quality has increased, too.
