PreSchool Partners Facililty
The new PreSchool Partners 12,500 square-foot educational facility allowed the organization to expand operations by approximately 60 percent. With some dedicated team members, Hoar completed the project in time for PreSchool Partners to celebrate its 20th anniversary in the new facility.
The new PreSchool Partners 12,500 square-foot educational facility – the first dedicated solely to the nonprofit – features eight classrooms, a playground, a children’s theatre, a library, and other multi-purpose rooms, allowing the organization to expand operations by approximately 60 percent. Hoar served as the general contractor for the project and donated the construction fee to PreSchool Partners at the completion of the project.
At the beginning of this project, our Hoar team, the architect, and the structural engineer dedicated considerable time to discuss the overall vision of the project and design efficient structural systems. During their planning session, the team made real-time changes to the shop drawings which provided an accurate set of instructions for our prefabrication shop. The team chose to use durable metal stud framing for the majority of the structure, and we prefabricated the entire structural system off site to guarantee the quality of the project and to mitigate the schedule risks of winter construction. A process that would normally take weeks when conducted by e-mail, phone calls, and multiple meetings was accomplished in a single, highly-productive session. The decision to prefabricate the structure led to the project being more cost-effective, better managed overall, and completed on time despite more than 40 days of inclement weather.
PreSchool Partners’ purpose is to “Equip families of at-risk preschool children with the skills needed to prepare children for elementary school.” This project was completed in time to celebrate PreSchool Partners’ 20th anniversary of serving preschool children and their families in inner-city Birmingham.
