The renovation of Davis Hall at Tennessee State University will impact approximately 60,205 square feet of space within the historic Walter S. Davis Humanities Building, also known as the Old Administration Building.
Originally constructed in 1933 and last renovated in 1997, the building has a gross area of 57,596 square feet and serves as a central academic and administrative hub on campus. It houses the Poag Auditorium, general classrooms, administrative offices, laboratories, the Department of Languages, Literature, and Philosophy, as well as the Communication and Information Technologies divisions. The existing building program includes 13,285 square feet in the basement, which consists of a lobby, staff offices, server room, storage areas, workstations, and restrooms. The first floor comprises 24,345 square feet and features an auditorium, classrooms, staff offices, laboratories, work/study rooms, and restrooms. The second floor includes 9,527 square feet of space with an auditorium balcony, exterior balcony, control room, classrooms, staff offices, and restrooms. The third floor adds another 8,282 square feet of classrooms, staff offices, and restrooms, bringing the total existing area to 55,435 square feet (excluding the attic).
