The Ellis

The Ellis is a 34-story apartment complex situated in North Tryon Street corridor of Charlotte, encompassing the entire city block.

It is one of the largest and tallest multifamily communities in the area at 385’ tall, featuring 365 luxury apartments and 20,000 SF of retail below. The building has several amenities, including both an indoor and outdoor fitness facility, yoga room, library, and a pool on the 33rd floor. We worked in conjunction with the developer, who handled the mid-rise building adjacent to the high-rise building, with construction that lasted through June 2021. The project was successfully completed largely during a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, within a zero-lot-line requiring stringent tracking and scheduling of deliveries to the strict sequential ordering of high-rise construction. The Ellis is located in one of the most urban areas of Charlotte, requiring Hoar and its trade partners to constantly communicate and pivot as needed in order to successfully orchestrate the daily inflow of building materials to a job site that offered minimal laydown room. Approximately 1.4 million linear feet of framing materials and more than 2.7 million square feet of drywall board were also installed, with pedestrian walkways adjacent to the site remained open through the duration of the project.
