Fort Campbell, on the Kentucky-Tennessee border, will expand its capabilities with a new National Guard Armory. The Tennessee Military Department recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project, which aims to strengthen the readiness of the Tennessee Army National Guard.

At the groundbreaking ceremony on October 22, soldiers, local leaders, and military officials attended, the Tennessee Military Department reported. The project is intended to improve training for soldiers to carry out both federal and state missions.

“Tennessee Guardsmen training at Fort Campbell will soon be able to utilize a modern National Guard Armory” said Maj. Gen. Warner Ross in an official announcement. The 31,000-square-foot facility will include updated spaces for administration and training, supply and storage areas with energy-efficient features, and parking for soldiers, visitors, and tactical vehicles.

As Maj. Gen. Warner Ross stated in an official announcement, “Soldiers will be able to train in classrooms, the new drill hall, and have immediate access to the Fort Campbell training areas.” Hoar Construction of Nashville, awarded the guaranteed maximum price contract, will build the facility. The project is funded through a combination of federal and state resources, with approval from the Tennessee State Building Commission in July 2021 and design work handled by Lyle Cook Martin starting in August 2022.

Once completed, the new facility at Fort Campbell will serve as a center for Tennessee Army National Guard training.
