Sky Strange is a healthcare superintendent with 20 years’ experience leading healthcare construction projects. He’s currently working on a renovation project at a medical center in Huntsville, Alabama. Here’s 8 questions to learn more about him.

1. What’s your current day-to-day look like?

Although we plan constantly for everything we can control, the old rule of thumb “plan your work and work your plan” sometimes does not work in the healthcare industry. There are many moving parts in a hospital and all of them may need your attention at the same time.

2. What’s the one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that’s stuck with you?

Never leave the state inspectors side during an inspection! You owe it to your client and your project to ensure you are there to answer any questions or address any potential issues head on.

3. What’s the last thing you did to serve a client better?

I coordinated our owner’s vendors to install and certify their work. Hospital staff are incredibly busy and usually don’t not have time, so I’m happy to take that off their plate.

4. What’s your most memorable project?

Grand National Lodge and Conference Center, where I met my wife of 17 years. She’s currently an assistant superintendent with Hoar Construction.

5. What’s the best part of your job?

The satisfaction of knowing the healthcare projects that we build are improving and helping people lives.

6. What sets healthcare projects apart from other market sectors?

Healthcare is more in depth and scrutinized more so than the other sectors, so it requires incredible precision and attention to detail.

7. How many years have you worked in healthcare construction?

20 years

8. What’s your proudest accomplishment?

Making Healthcare Superintendent from starting as a co-op.
