ACU Student Recreation Center

The state-of-the-art Money Student Recreation and Wellness Center features an elevated indoor running track. The vision from the design architect was to carry a ceiling line over the track and to maintain the feel of an exposed structure.

The initial design called for curved metal panels to be suspended from the structure to create “clouds.” After the project was bid, we isolated the cost for these clouds and proposed an alternative: using a series of lay-in ceilings with special perimeter trim to create the same ceiling line and the desired open feel. The cost savings was over $50,000. We worked with ACU to take the savings from this value engineering idea, along with several others that were accepted, to upgrade the mechanical equipment and building automation system to maintain campus standards and allow for better integration of the controls system.
