Ft. Campbell Physical Fitness
The Physical Fitness Facility, Clarksville Base at Ft. Campbell, TN, is situated on a 20-acre site, and in addition to the 67,000 square foot facility, it includes two softball fields and a multipurpose field. The facility was delivered on a design-build basis for the US Army Corps of Engineers. It has received LEED Silver certification.
The new Physical Fitness Facility provides the men and women stationed at Clarksville Base a great option for physical activity. The site provided some challenges, and our design-build team worked to develop a comprehensive site design that balanced grading and fill requirements. To do this, our team proposed to relocate the multipurpose field from its original location to an area of the site that would require far less expense for site preparation. The proposed area provided favorable grading conditions. However, it also contained a capped Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU). Working with the Corps of Engineers, our team developed a design that would allow the SWMU to be reclaimed for recreational use. In doing so, we were able to reclaim a brownfield, locate the multipurpose field in a far more functional location, and provide significant savings to the project by eliminating 20,000 cubic yards of fill material.
