Nektar Therapeutics
At the time Hoar Construction was selected to construct the Nektar Therapeutics expansion facility, the owner had little more than a basic floor plan and a need to occupy the building in a very short time frame.
When Hoar was hired to build the Necktar Therapeutics facility, no MEP drawings existed. No equipment had been purchased. And time was of the essence. Expanding next to a working manufacturing facility, especially one as sensitive as a pharmaceutical company, always presents significant challenges. In this case, it was necessary to undercut the new building next to the existing facility foundations where hazardous piping had to remain unharmed. The manufacturing facility included tens of thousands of linear feet of carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper piping, most of which was welded stainless steel (a requirement for the manufacturing systems). Welding stainless steel is a time-consuming process and was a major challenge with the project schedule. Even with this and the challenge of building next to a working facility, the project completion date never changed and we turned the building over to the owner on time.
