The Strada at Mercato

Since showers are historically a trouble spot in condos, we developed a multiple-step quality control program specifically for shower pan waterproofing at the Strada to ensure they were installed correctly and had no penetrations after the fact.

We conducted pre-installation meetings with all associated trades to review our QC checklist and built mock-ups to work out installation details. We also water-tested every pan repeatedly during construction. On the first several showers, we observed corner flashing failures. Hoar’s team conducted a training class with the waterproofing installers to ensure the QC program was fully understood, which eliminated the flashing problem. Another common issue with shower installation is sheetrock screws penetrating the shower pan liner—an item on our checklist. Daily inspections noted three instances where the screws were too low; the pan liners were patched before installation proceeded.
