VA Tampa Mental Health Clinic
The VA Tampa Mental Health Clinic is a 150,000-square-foot, two-story mental health clinic that will include 60 patient beds and two domiciliary wings.
The new facility will combine all mental health services in the surrounding area into a single medical center.
This facility consolidates the existing psychology rehab and recovery center, the Tampa domiciliary, and a residential treatment program for homeless veterans.
During the construction phase of this project, we encountered two different named hurricane storms, unprecedented supply chain delays for major mechanical and electrical equipment, continual cost escalation for construction materials, and an increasing rate of shortages for qualified labor, as well as the normal challenges that arise for any construction project of this size. At the beginning of the project, Hoar provided value engineering services that saved the clients almost $1 million. The team credits much of their cost savings to the selection of different flooring materials, changes in electrical feeders’ materials allowed per code, and changes in the orientation of metal panel screen walls. The team was able to avoid additional cost escalations through the project by early procurement of steel and flooring materials as well as other major equipment, which were subject to major cost escalations during the construction of the building.
