Andrew Bray is an experienced healthcare superintendent and leads our project team at Children’s of Alabama, where we remain on site to help the hospital expand, renovate, or maintain their campus as needed. Get to know more about him in just 8 questions.

1. What’s your current day-to-day look like?

Morning huddle with job team over coffee, e-mails, meetings, job walks.

2. What’s the one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that’s stuck with you?

How others treat you is a reflection of how you treat them.

3. Describe the last challenge or problem you solved?

We are in the process of building an Intraoperative Imaging OR and the drawings call for a substantial amount of conduit to be installed underneath the floor and turned up into the operating table.  Due to offices on the floor below and ceiling congestion, we found a floor duct system as a pathway for all the cabling to the table.  This product installs in the recessed slab before we infill with concrete.  This will reduce install time and eliminates what would have been a two-week disruption to the offices below to install the conduit.

4. What’s your most memorable project?

I’ve been at Children’s my entire career with Hoar — from building the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children to renovating, expanding, and maintaining the current hospital campus.

5. What’s the best part of your job?

Being on the same job for over ten years, my coworkers have become some of my closest friends.

6. Why do you enjoy working in Healthcare construction?

It’s challenging and constantly evolving with medical technology.

7. How many years have you worked in healthcare construction?

20 years

8. What’s your proudest accomplishment?

Being part of the team that built the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children.
