Meet Our Experts: Kelly Taylor

by | Feb 20, 2020 | Insights, People

The people who plan, manage, and build our projects are all experts in their field, and an integral part of our company’s success. Kelly Taylor is a project manager with more than 20 years’ experience in the construction industry. Here’s eight questions to get to know her:

1. What’s your day-to-day look like?

On a day that I’m in the office, I first look at my calendar to review what meetings I have coming up that day so I can prepare. Then I go through my hot items — phone calls required from the day/week before, emails required to document phone conversations (I use my email as an action list), and then touch base with what my team needs from me. Then I review the weekly meeting reports, OAC meeting minutes, and trade partner meeting minutes to determine what follow up is required. On the days I visit the job site, I do safety walks and attend the safety meetings to make sure my superintendent has what is needed in the field to do their job properly.

2. What’s the one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that’s stuck with you?

Stay organized – half of the job is just being able to locate information quickly.

3. How long have you been in the industry?

24 years

4. What’s the best part of the job?

There’s never a dull moment!

5. Describe the last challenge you overcame on a job?

I simultaneously closed out a very large job while starting up a new, challenging job.

6. How did you get started in the industry?

I was actually in school pursuing a degree in horticulture when I was offered an opportunity to be a coordinator for a small general contractor. From there, a family friend helped get me an interview at another construction company. I was hired on the spot as a project engineer and I’ve never looked back! I can mark all of my major life events over the past 20 years by what job I was on at the time – from the births of my three sons to when I graduated from Rollins College.

7. What’s your hidden talent?

I used to be a florist – I still know how to make a boutonniere

8. What’s your favorite band?

It has changed with age – right now I prefer alternative rock bands, but I also love Post Malone!
