by | Jun 17, 2021 | Insights, People

As Director of Preconstruction, Mark Cameron applies his 20 years of experience in our industry to plan every detail of our clients’ projects to ensure a reliable budget, schedule, and smooth project delivery. Here’s 8 questions to get to know more about him.

1. What’s your day-to-day look like?

It’s never the same. I’m typically working on budgeting for multiple opportunities that are at different stages in the preconstruction process. This includes updating General Conditions, soliciting trade partners for pricing on a potential project, generating a very conceptual pricing exercise for another, reviewing a budget, participating in a Teams call, and whatever else is needed at any given time.

2. What’s the one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that’s stuck with you?

People may or may not remember the problems encountered on a project, but they always remember your actions and how you treated them.

3. What sets Healthcare projects apart from other types of construction?

Each project is different. Whether it’s a refresh, renovation, replacement hospital, expansion, or something else, they all require a new and fresh approach because each one presents a new challenge.

4. What’s your most memorable project?

Hill Center in Nashville, $40 million retail center with a partially below grade parking garage. It was my second project as a project manager, and I was fortunate to gain a lot of experience early in my career being on a high-profile project.

5. What’s the best part of your job?

The people I work with.

6. Why do you enjoy working in Healthcare construction?

The detail and intricacies related to working in a healthcare environment.

7. What’s your funniest memory from your time with Hoar Construction?

When my assistant superintendent found a diamond ring in a pile of stone that was delivered to the jobsite. He took it to a local jewelry store, and it appraised for $3,000.

8. What’s your proudest accomplishment?

Professionally, it’s having successfully project managed over $175 million of projects while at Hoar.
