Taylor Johnson is a general superintendent leading our teams and driving projects to success in Chattanooga. Taylor started with Hoar as an intern and has built his career as a field leader and expert. Get to know more about him in just 7 questions.

1. What does your day-to-day look like?

Assisting our project teams with scheduling/logistics/material procurement timelines, hiring new field team members and screening them, assisting with client relations and project pursuits, making schedules/logistics plans for awarded projects, and planning warranty repairs, if any, on completed projects.

2. What’s the one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that’s stuck with you?

Be where your feet are! As a leader and construction professional, whether it’s with your direct reports or subcontractors, leading from the front and setting the example onsite ensures project success. Expecting things to ” work themselves out” normally does not work well.

3. What are you working on now?

Assisting all of our project teams here in Chattanooga as our General Superintendent. Assisting Preconstruction and our Director of Operations with project pursuits.

4. How did you get started in the industry?

In High School, I worked as a laborer/operator for a small GC in Memphis, TN. The owner of this company, being a great mentor to me, ensured that I saw each phase of construction. I learned to appreciate the hard work and dedication it takes to build a building from start to finish. I used those experiences to choose a higher education path in building construction sciences at Mississippi State. I eventually interned with Hoar on a nursing school project in Memphis, TN. I was able to secure a full-time position as an assistant superintendent with us in 2015. That early introduction to construction allowed me to really understand the commitment it takes to be successful both personally and professionally.

5. What’s the best part of your job?

My interaction with our superintendents in Chattanooga, assisting them with problem-solving, and ensuring they have the tools for success.

6. What’s your favorite band or song?

Hard to pinpoint one! Any rock or country/bluegrass.

7. What’s your proudest accomplishment?

The career I have built here at Hoar, with the help of many! I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today without the support of many great people.
