Positive Changemakers: Giving Tuesday Edition

Giving Tuesday has become a global movement and a call to action to give time, money, talents, donations — whatever we can, to help others around us. On this day of giving, and with the holidays fast approaching, we thought we’d use this platform to share a few ways you can help us give back. Every year, our offices and jobsites collect toys and donations to give back to organizations that help children and families in our communities. Here’s a few of the groups we’re actively collecting for right now:

The Jucan Foundation:

The JuCan Foundation is hosting their 9th annual Toy Drive this year benefitting MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital. The patients are quarantined and have limited visitors and activities, so the hospital is in need of toys and games the children can play with in their rooms. Our employees in Houston are collecting toys, and donations can be made directly to the foundation here.

Children’s Home Society:

Our employees in Florida volunteer with the Children’s Home Society of Central Florida all year long, so naturally they are working with the CHS now to make the holidays a little brighter for children and families in their community. Senior Project Manager Barrie Clay built this tree to display ornaments with the names of children for employees to sponsor during the CHS gift drive. We have a long history with Children’s of Alabama. Our healthcare employees participate in fundraising events and volunteer to help support the hospital and the incredible work they do all year long. During the holiday season, our entire Alabama division and corporate office join in and collect toys to stock the Sugar Plum Shop, a program for patients and their families who spend their holidays at the hospital. Here’s the organization’s wish list for toys, games, and gifts. You can purchase online, and hospital staff will deliver the gifts to children and their families.

Toys for Tots:

The Marine Toys for Tots gift collection boxes can be found at many of our job site offices during the holiday season. If you want to support the toy drive, you can donate through a virtual toy drop box here. To date, the organization have delivered 584 million toys to 265 million children.

ABC of VA Coat Drive:

The Associated Builders and Contractors of Virginia is teaming up with Our Neighbor’s Child to collect warm coats for children in the community — from children as young as infants up to 12 years old. Our office in D.C. is participating in the coat drive. If you’d like to send a coat or donate towards the cause, click here.
