Positive Changemakers Part 2

Now more than ever, we find ourselves looking for good in the world. Fortunately, we don’t have to look far to find organizations, people, and companies who are helping others, communities, and our industry. We’d like to highlight these positive change-makers and the incredible work they’re doing to inspire each other and challenge ourselves to create positive change in our own communities.

United Against Poverty – Florida

United Against Poverty’s mission is to serve people in poverty by providing crisis care, education, food, training and more. The philosophy of this organization is to offer a hand up, not a handout. Although they do have an emergency relief program, this organization focuses intently on getting individuals and families out of poverty permanently. Many of our employees in Florida have had the opportunity to volunteer with UAP by building community station counters for their grocer section, a donation drop-off box, a dressing area for members who are getting ready to interview for positions in the workforce, as well as, assisted in stocking their grocery store. You can volunteer your time and resources as well, click here to learn more about the many different ways to get involved with UAP.

Children’s Harbor – Lake Martin, AL and Birmingham, AL

Children’s Harbor gives children with serious illnesses and their families a place to be themselves while getting no-cost services, at two different locations — the Family Center at the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children in Birmingham, AL and the retreat facility at Lake Martin. Hoar is proud to be a longtime supporter of Children’s Harbor through their Pig Iron BBQ Challenge which raises money to help the organization continue to serve children and their families.

Make-A-Wish – National

Make-A-Wish is a national organization that many people are familiar with, because of the joy and smiles they bring to children diagnosed with critical illnesses. We’d like to specifically recognize Make-A-Wish Alabama, which one of our LinkedIn followers nominated as a positive changemaker in the community. There are many ways to get involved and help grant life-changing wishes for children, from volunteering positions to donation opportunities.

Victory Cup Initiative – Central Florida

This organization is a positive changemaker, which helps other positive changemakers! The Victory Cup Initiative puts on a major event to provide a platform to charitable organizations to tell their stories, compete for prize money to help their organizations, and partner with community leaders and philanthropists.
