This year’s national Construction Safety Week theme is Strong Voices, Safe Choices. Immediately, this idea resonated with us because it closely aligns with processes and principles we already embrace as part of our safety culture. We empower our teams to be “My Brother and Sister’s Keeper.” We encourage them that if they see something unsafe, say something. We teach the men and women who work on our sites about the Red Flags of Safety. And above all else, we train our teams to eliminate the hazards.
What do all these ideas and principles have in common? They require speaking up. Using your voice. Calling out to stop work if necessary. That’s why we knew our safety leaders on site could easily embrace this year’s theme of Strong Voices, Safe Choices. To us, it’s a reminder to always be armed with the most important tool we have — our voice. Here’s a video we made highlighting our interpretation of how strong voices lead to safe choices.
