Time flies when you have the confidence, cash and parade of concrete trucks to fill an excavated city block and erect four tower cranes — the most of any construction site in Nashville.
Not even 10 months ago, the Broadwest site at 1600 West End Ave. had nothing in it. Now, work crews have poured concrete for one-third of the 21 floors in the project’s office tower. Work is well underway on Broadwest’s other tower — a 34-story high-rise with a luxury Hilton Conrad hotel beneath 196 condos. A parking garage that’s 40% larger than the one at Music City Center is mostly built.
Looking up, and not down, is a new phenomenon for the 3.9-acre property. It’s long been a closely watched site, sitting at the point where Broadway and West End split. Former owner Alex Palmer attempted to develop it for a number of years. The Propst family, from Huntsville, Alabama, paid Palmer $36.9 million in early 2018 for the land and hasn’t looked back — sparking a $540 million development without yet tapping a construction loan, according to public records.
