Hoar Construction today announced the promotion of John Goodner to region president, overseeing the general contractor’s markets of Alabama, Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas. The move coincides with Goodner’s 20th anniversary at Hoar and follows the recent transition of Turner Burton to CEO, marking an important moment in the company’s continued leadership evolution.
Goodner’s career began at Hoar as a project manager before working his way up to positions including director of division operations for the Florida Division and senior vice president of operations in the firm’s Birmingham headquarters, overseeing both the Alabama and Florida divisions. Under his leadership, Hoar strengthened its internal training for business operations, implementing a regular schedule of both virtual and in-person classes available to employees of all levels. He also led operations for some of the biggest projects in Hoar’s portfolio, including the STEM + Agricultural Sciences Complex at Auburn University, the Medley mixed-use project in Johns Creek Town Center in Georgia, and multiple projects for high profile entertainment companies in Florida.
“It’s an honor to step into this role at a company that has been the foundation of my career for the past two decades,” said Goodner. “Hoar’s strength has always been its people, its meaningful client relationships and a shared commitment to our core values. I look forward to working alongside our teams across the Southeast as we continue delivering projects that have a lasting impact on the communities we serve.”
As region president, Goodner will oversee strategy and growth, new business development, client relations and internal talent development for several of Hoar’s key divisions. He will draw on his extensive experience in program management, construction management and preconstruction to help ensure Hoar’s portfolio continues to grow across the Southeast while expanding the company’s capabilities and reach.
“John’s leadership over the past two decades has consistently reflected the values that define our culture at Hoar,” said Turner Burton, CEO of Hoar. “He leads with integrity, treats people the right way and is deeply committed to supporting our teams and their families. John also embodies our relentless pursuit of improvement, always looking for ways to learn from every project and adapt when challenges arise. Those qualities, combined with his experience and dedication to our people and clients, make him exceptionally well suited to guide our teams and continue strengthening our presence across the Southeast.”
Goodner is a graduate of Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction. He currently serves as the Treasurer of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham board, and as a board member of both Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama and M-Power Ministries. He is also a member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club and is actively involved with Covenant Presbyterian Church in Birmingham.
