Firm accelerates momentum in Southeast as Buffalo Rock proceeds with work valued at a combined $100 million

Hoar Construction announced today that it has launched construction on two high-profile industrial projects for Buffalo Rock in Alabama as the firm continues to expand its reach in the automotive, e-commerce, and food and beverage sectors across the Southeast. With a combined value of approximately $100 million, the assignments reflect Hoar’s rise as one of the region’s leading industrial builders through its proven arsenal of preconstruction services and speed-to-market capabilities.

Totaling approximately 1.16 million square feet, the two projects are:

  • Buffalo Rock/Birmingham: a $75 million expansion for Birmingham-based soft drink distributor Buffalo Rock Company that includes the renovation of an 895,000-square-foot warehouse and a 120,000-square-foot office building. Located off Industrial Drive in Birmingham, the updated warehouse will feature state-of-the-art technology, enabling Buffalo Rock to double its current production capacity. The two facilities are scheduled to deliver in December 2021 and January 2022.
  • Buffalo Rock/Huntsville: a new $25 million distribution facility for Buffalo Rock located off I-565 in Huntsville, Alabama. The new plant will employ approximately 130 workers and will replace the current distribution center located on Old Madison Pike. The facility is scheduled for completion in May of 2022.

In addition to these two projects, Hoar is also continuing work on the Gestamp plant in Chattanooga, TN, with a second phase recently added to ongoing construction. Hoar is also overseeing the renovation of a distribution center in Florida that serves as a key hub for a top e-commerce company, with a second distribution center for the same client expected to commence later this spring.

Shifting market dynamics have generated increased demand for distribution centers, manufacturing plants, and warehouses that are equipped with the latest technology to ensure efficiency and speed. Hoar’s planning capabilities and expertise in all facets of industrial construction have enabled building a broad portfolio across the Southeast, providing valuable insight for project owners who now require greater cost certainty due to fluctuating conditions with supply chains and material costs. All of these projects are going to make a substantial economic impact on their respective local communities as well.

The two superintendents leading the projects are Josh Blalock (Buffalo Rock, Birmingham) and Michael Ohlson (Buffalo Rock, Huntsville). Hoar’s sister company, HPM, has been selected as program manager for both Buffalo Rock projects.

Hoar has built more than 92 industrial projects over the last 15 years for a broad array of industrial users, including Airbus, Gestamp, GD Copper, and more.
