Hoar Construction’s Clayton Mckinnon Honored as Centerbuild Rising Retail Leaders Under 40

Hoar Construction’s Clayton McKinnon was recognized at the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) CenterBuild conference in Phoenix as one of its Rising Retail Leaders Under 40 for 2018.

The award recognizes the top professionals under the age of 40 who are influencing the construction and design of retail/mixed-use facilities. McKinnon, a director of business development for Hoar’s Alabama Division, started with Hoar as a project manager in 2012. He has managed multiple large, award-winning projects both in and outside the state of Alabama. His first project with Hoar was Avalon in Alpharetta, Ga., an 86-acre, $65 million mixed-use development. When Avalon was completed, McKinnon began work on the historic renovation and redevelopment of the Powell Avenue Steam Plant in Birmingham.

“Clayton has been a part of some our largest mixed-use projects over the past few years,” said Stacey Berthon, senior vice president at Hoar and chair of last year’s CenterBuild conference. “He is a rising star at Hoar, and I look forward to seeing what he brings to the retail industry throughout his career.”

Selection was based on an individual’s ability to consistently energize those around them, demonstrate leadership qualities, actively participate in innovation, and derive creative solutions to project challenges. All leaders were honored at today’s conference luncheon.

CenterBuild is the premiere specialty conference for design and construction professionals dedicated to the planning, development, design, and construction of retail-focused developments. Over the past 30 years, thousands of design and construction professionals have attended this conference, emphasizing a highly interactive program that encourages the exchange of ideas.
