Brookwood Freestanding ED

The Brookwood Freestanding Emergency facility is a 25,000 square-foot, 1-story building with 12 trauma beds, full diagnostic services, and an on-site pharmacy.

Located on approximately 4 acres in a surburban area of Birmingham, a helipad on site allows for rapid transport of patients to a full medical center when patient conditions warrant.

In spite of significant challenges from weather, the project team on the Brookwood Freestanding Emergency Department successfully used a recovery schedule to meet their client’s request for an earlier completion date. With an already tight deadline, the team was able to accelerate their schedule so significantly, they made up 45 rain days in less than 3 weeks. They accomplished this by working longer hours and scheduling multiple trades simultaneously. At one point, up to 24 trade partners were on site at the same time. By meeting the accelerated schedule, the owner was able to begin receiving patients five weeks ahead of the originally scheduled opening date.
