Brandon Smith is a Project Executive who has been with Hoar for more than 11 years, leading a variety of project types for our Florida division — from entertainment to higher education. Get to know more about him in just 10 questions.
1. What’s your day-to-day look like?
As a project executive, my day-to-day role changes daily. I am either supporting the project teams with difficult decisions, ensuring projects stay on schedule and budget, or assisting in the preconstruction efforts when needed.
2. What’s the one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that’s stuck with you?
Proactive communication and relationship building are just as critical as technical expertise. Project teams succeed when trust and transparency are maintained.
3. What’s the last thing you did to help make a project run smoother?
For most projects, I like to be involved in building the schedule from preconstruction and managing throughout construction. I try to participate in maintaining the schedule alongside the field team to provide additional support or guidance when needed.
4. How did you get started in the industry?
I’ve been around construction my whole life. Several family members of mine are project managers and superintendents, so jobsites were pretty much part of growing up. It’s always been exciting to me, and that early exposure is a big reason why I’m so passionate about the work.
5. What’s the best part of your job?
Training people and watching others around me grow.
6. What’s your favorite band or song?
Shinedown
7. What’s your hidden talent?
The ability to jokingly annoy my wife and kids.
8. What’s your favorite movie?
Because of my son, anything Marvel.
9. What’s your fondest memory from your time with Hoar Construction?
My fondest memories come after a project is complete. When available, the team will get together for a celebratory dinner, fishing trip, or another event to commemorate the end of the project. It allows everyone to reconnect outside of work and enjoy a few laughs.
10. What’s your proudest accomplishment?
Professionally, being a part of a family-cultured company and contributing to its growth. Personally, my kids!
