Meet Our Experts: Cindy Anderson

by | Jan 21, 2021 | Insights, People

The people who plan, manage, and build our projects are all experts in their field, and an integral part of our company’s success.  Director of Preconstruction Cindy Anderson has nearly 30 years’ experience in the construction industry and an expertise in setting projects up for success through preconstruction. Here’s 8 questions to get to know more about her.

1. What’s your current day-to-day look like?

It is never typical – one day may be full of meetings/conference calls, another day may be working on conceptual budget, and another day may be spent reviewing budgets with team members.

2. What’s the one lesson you’ve learned in this industry that’s stuck with you?

You have to be adaptable to change in more ways than one whether it’s technology, market conditions, different clients’ expectations, improvements in our own internal policies and procedures, general construction means and methods, new products in the industry — the list goes on. I learn something new every day and every day I am challenged in a different way than I was the day before.

3. What’s your most memorable project?

While I was in our Orlando office, it was Lake Sumter Landing at The Villages. The project literally dropped in our lap within about 24 hours of meeting the client and we were off to the races with a design–build project building a small village —literally!

4. How did you get started in the industry?

I was fortunate to take architecture courses in high school which led to me majoring initially in architecture, but then Building Science at Auburn. My first job out of school was with a small high-end interiors general contractor in Houston where I was an estimator, project manager, and sometimes superintendent for projects. Upon leaving that company, I moved back to Alabama and was hired as a concrete estimator for Hoar and as they say, the rest is history.

5. What’s the best part of your job?

Working with great team members who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table that I learn from every day.

6. What’s your hidden talent?

I would not say it is a talent, but I do seem to have a great memory for useless pop culture trivia. So, I will take “80’s Movies for $2000, please!”

7. What’s your favorite movie?

When Harry Met Sally

8. What’s your proudest accomplishment?

Training for and then running and finishing the NYC Marathon.
