Hoar Construction Wraps Up Award-Winning Year

Hoar Construction closed out another award-winning year in 2019. Most recently the company brought home nine Excellence in Construction Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors chapters around the country.

These awards honor innovative and high-quality Merit Shop construction projects and recognize all team members, including the contractor, owner, architect, and engineer. Project winners included:

Latitude Med Center (Residential Multifamily Over $50 Million) – A 33-story multifamily high rise with 375 units near The Texas Medical Center.

  • ABC Greater Houston – Eagle Award
  • ABC Alabama – Eagle Award

Texas A&M University-Texarkana Building for Academic & Student Services (Institutional $10-$25 million) – Three-story multipurpose facility, integrating student support spaces with classrooms, laboratories and faculty offices.

  • ABC Greater Houston – Eagle Award
  • ABC Alabama – Merit Award

Vireo Apartments (Residential Multifamily Under $50 Million) – A 27-story multifamily development with a 7-level above-grade parking structure.

  • ABC Alabama – Eagle Award

Hollywood Studios Transportation Facilities (Other Construction $2-$100 million) – An auto-plaza tollbooth facility to serve as a new gate entrance to the park.

  • ABC Central Florida – Eagle Award
  • ABC Alabama – Merit Award

Capital View (Mega Project) – 1,176,000 SF mixed use development with 43,000 SF of Class A office space, 38,000 SF of retail, restaurants, and grocery, a 447,000 SF multifamily component, and a 10-story, 300,000 SF steel framed office building.

  • ABC Tennessee – Eagle Award

Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart (Healthcare $50-$100 million) – A four-story tower designed to consolidate all children’s services and expand women’s services at the hospital in Pensacola.

  • ABC Alabama – Merit Award

In addition, Texas A&M University-Texarkana and the Texas Division’s Houston Methodist Central Utility Plant projects also earned accolades from ENR TX/LA in the magazine’s Best Projects awards. Houston Methodist won Best Project in the Under $10 million category for work on the Central Utility Plant. Texas A&M University-Texarkana won an Award of Merit in the Higher Education/Research category.  

The Texas Division’s Latitude Med Center project also earned an Honor Award in the Residential Multifamily category from the Associated Masonry Contractors of Houston. Our trade partner Camarata Masonry Systems entered the project in the local awards competition.

Finally, our DC Division’s Lumen at Tysons project was awarded a Grand Aurora Award for Best on the Boards Mixed Use or Multifamily Community from the Southeast Building Conference.

In addition, we had several team members who were recognized for their contributions in the industry and their communities:

  • DC Division Safety Director Jorge Otalora, was named a 2019 Every Day Job Hero by Minds That Move Us at the organization’s Miami conference in the spring.
  • Assistant Superintendent Dennis Parker was named a 2019 Tech-Powered Superintendent by Plangrid’s Construction Productivity blog.
  • Alabama Division Senior Preconstruction Manager Brian Thompson was awarded Estimator of the Year by the Subcontractors Association of Alabama.
  • Project Manager Jorge Barrera and Assistant Project Manager Cole Fuller were named to the AGC Construction Leadership Council in Houston.
