Parke West Updates

Check back here for regular construction updates.

9/2/2021

The I-440 North-bound ramp is scheduled to be re-opened to the public on Saturday, September 11. Thank you for your cooperation.

7/8/2021

Beginning on Monday, August 9th, and ending Sunday, August 29th, the I-440 North-bound ramp from Murphy Road will be temporarily closed for the reconstruction of the ramp. Once completed, the intersection will have new paving, striping, and sidewalks. Thank you for your cooperation.

4/13/2021

In order to continue construction while considering the community, most major material deliveries have shifted to 9 am-3 pm to miss rush hour traffic. During material deliveries, you can expect 2 East-bound lanes to be temporarily shut off in Murphy Road while the West-bound bound lanes will remain open. Deliveries can be expected every day, so please plan accordingly!

Currently, we are installing a new waterline within Murphy Road, so portions of the roadway will be temporarily closed due to this work, but road travel will remain in both directions. This work can be expected to be complete at the beginning of May.

Thank you for your cooperation.

3/17/21

Beginning March 29th, the main waterline located within Murphy Road will be replaced and portions of the roadway will be closed due to this work, but road travel will remain in both directions. The work will last until April 25th and the roadway will be patched after the line is replaced. The construction will last from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm every day.

3/5/21

Beginning February 4th, a new curb and gutter system will be installed at West End Place & Park Circle. The construction will last approximately until February 12th. Thank you for your cooperation.

The blasting is over! Now, here’s what to expect next . . .

We are happy to report that the basting phase of Parke West is OVER! Thank you for your patience during this process. The next phase of the project will focus on building the concrete structure for the garage, residences, and hotel. Over the next two months, we will start installing the foundations for the parking garage. This work will be conducted in the bottom of the excavation, and concrete pours will be done during the day. You probably will not notice many changes during this time. Once the foundations are complete, we will start performing “vertical” concrete work, which is essentially columns, shear walls, and elevated slabs. Each level of the parking garage will be completed in five separate areas, or pours. Each area takes about 3 weeks to form, place reinforcing steel and post-tensioned cabling, pour and finish the concrete, and then “wreck” the formwork. As the team cycles through the areas, you should expect 1 major concrete pour per week. Depending on the size of the slab, this could mean up to 20 concrete trucks will deliver on those days. As the trucks deliver concrete along Murphy Road to the two cranes, we will be in constant communication with the batch plant to ensure traffic is not backed up and we only have exactly the concrete we need. This process usually takes 4-5 hours. We conduct pours during the night for several reasons, but it mostly comes down to timing. Minimal traffic and lower temperatures allow for a more consistent delivery, minimize traffic disruption, and increase the finish quality of the concrete. By the time everyone is heading to work, the deliveries will be complete, Murphy Road will be fully open and our team will be busy finishing the concrete within the project site. This process takes time. We plan to be “topped out” or complete with the structure around this time next year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns with this process.

NOTICE: One of the two tower cranes is scheduled for installation on December 16th, 17th, and 18th. There will be lane closures on Murphy Road as the crane is delivered and placed. Please plan accordingly!

Murphy Court – No Through Traffic!

As the project progresses, our team will be closing the south section of Murphy Court to through traffic. As shown in the image below, we will be routing construction deliveries through this section of Murphy Court. Please bear in mind we are not only doing this for public safety, but to alleviate traffic disruptions along Murphy Road as well. The east and west legs of Murphy Court will remain open for deliveries and local businesses. The south section will remain closed throughout the project.

Thank you for your patience during this process!

Blasting Updates – The end is near!

First and foremost, thank you for your patience and concerns during the blasting process at Parke West. Despite the early morning disruptions, the process has been smooth and efficient thanks to our site work team led by Division 2. We have reached the bottom of the excavation in some areas of the site. This is as far as our excavation will go (upper right corner of the photo). The drill rig along the right side of the site in the foreground is preparing holes for the next blast. You can also see the evidence of shoring along the upper overburden and “line drilling” along the sheer face of exposed rock. This technique is used to control the fracturing of rock and maintain the integrity of the surrounding rock.

We expect three weeks of blasting activities remaining on-site! Concrete foundations will commence after that and we look forward to keeping everyone updated on that process as well.
